Change Orders and Additional Remodeling During Your Insurance Claim
Monday, November 4th, 2019
Hello there November! This month I want to give some insight on how to upgrade and remodel during your claims experience. What better time to make upgrades and changes than when your home will be undergoing construction in the first place? Sounds like a great time to me!
To better understand the terminology, this is exactly what a change order is when working with an insurance claim: A change order happens when you, the homeowner, request work to be done that is not listed within the insurance scope. Simply put, you want the change -you pay for it. The insurance company does not.
The point of working with the insurance company on your claim is that they pay to replace the materials and structure exactly as they were before the damage occurred. For example, you have a vinyl floor and want to upgrade to tile, insurance will pay you the price of the vinyl then you pay for the upgrade out of pocket.
Now that we are clear on the subject, here is what you can expect when working with us on your change order:
• Your change order scope of work will be created with the estimator shortly after insurance contract signing. Production and work onsite will not start until the change order(s) are approved by the homeowner and Testerman Restoration.
• Once reviewed and approved by you, the homeowner, and Testerman Restoration we will send you a Change Order contract to sign.
• When the Change Order contract is signed both the insurance scope and the change order scope of work is sent to production to create your working files.
• Within 48 hours (excluding weekends) your assigned project manager will call to set up a meeting in your home to review all scopes involved with your job.
Pretty easy process! The key is mentioning these changes while our estimator is at your home for a one-stop shop experience.
As always, we are here to help, 24/7! Give us a call at 865-691-1169 for all of your insurance claims, or remodeling needs…or both at the same time!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
